ALVARO MALDONADO
Founder/Director
Alvaro Maldonado is the founding Director of Ballet Teatro Internacional (BTI) using the power of dance to transform young people.
Alvaro is also a Producer, teacher, choreographer, and professional performer of ballet and contemporary dance. Alvaro's expertise stems from his years of training in dance, strength training, yoga, and Pilates.As a dancer, Maldonado began his training at the age of 8 in El Salvador and honed his skills over the next several years training at the prestigious National School of Ballet, in his native El Salvador.Alvaro began his professional international career at the age of 14 for the National Dance Company of El Salvador and has since performed classical ballet, ballroom, jazz and contemporary dance in over 30 countries.
Trained in classical ballet, Horton, Graham, Limon and Jazz he studied at the The Washington School of Ballet where he was granted a full scholarship, as well as dance schools in Barcelona Spain, Mexico and Argetina.
Alvaro has studied with the world renowned Alvin Ailey dance company in New York City on their Professional certificate program where he received a scholarship. While at the Alvin Ailey School, he was cast in Jardi Tancat, a piece by internationally celebrated choreographer Nacho Duato.
In 2002 Alvaro was one of fifteen dancers that performed at the opening of the Latin American Olympic Games competition with an audience of 85,000 people at the National Soccer Stadium in El Salvador. In the US, Mr. Maldonado has performed at the Kennedy Center, with El Teatro De Danza Contemporanea De El Salvador, Rincones and Company, American Ballet Theater among others.
As a producer he has worked in partnership with the youth symphony orquestra of El Salvador, and the US Embassy in El Salvador to produce shows like “Circo Sinfonico” and for United broadway “ Rock Sinfonico”
Maldonado has taught dance at Joy of motion dance center, the Alexandria ballet, The Washington dance institute and landed leading roles in productions such as Catholic University’s production of the opera AGAMEMNON.
That same year, he partnered with “OSJ,” the Youth Orchestra of El Salvador, to teach dance and music to youth, and to produce the concert “Circo Sinfonico.” Set to Mozart’s the Magic Flute, this sold-out concert was sponsored by the US Embassy in El Salvador, which paid for the expenses of the American dancers performing in the concert. The following year, he choreographed and performed in “Rock Sinfonico.” his second collaboration with the Youth Symphony Orchestra. This concert included professional dancers from New York, and was partially funded by the US Embassy in El Salvador and USAID. Alvaro graduated from the National Personal Training Institute as an advanced personal trainer and nutritional consultant in an effort to bring more expertise to his work as fitness manager and fitness coach at FIT. Mr. Maldonado is also the co-owner of FIT Personal Training Gymnasium he designs detailed, comprehensive fitness and nutrition programs to help people control their weight and health through exercise and dieting.
