Outreach Programs

The Mission of BTI's Community Outreach Program is to use the power of dance to transform the lives of youth and inspire the often neglected, low-income and frequently under-educated youth in the Washington D.C area and in Latin America to enhance their health, aspirations, achievements, skills and life chances deterring them from a life of drugs, violence and other anti-social behavior by creating transformational Dance training programs as we tap into their power to believe in themselves.

BTI DANCE INSTITUTE: THE HISTORY OF A VISION

Throughout it’s history, BTI has used the power of international exchange programs to expose minority communities to international cultures. By introducing the under-served youth in the United States and Central America to art and all of its virtues, we hope to inspire in them a life-long love and appreciation of the arts.

In 2006, BTI organized an exchange program between dance communities in El Salvador and the United States. This exchange, in association with the Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of the United States in El Salvador, was a partnership between BTI, the youth Symphony Orchestra of El Salvador, and the Gymnastics Federation of El Salvador. The program introduced the youth of El Salvador to music by some of the world’s greatest classical composers, as well as classical and contemporary choreography.

Due to the success of the exchange program in 2006, BTI returned to Latin America in 2007, We partnered with the El Salvador Youth Symphony orchestra.

In 2009, BTI partnered with The Central American Coalition against youth violence a non profit dedicated to foster integration programs to youth at risk focusing in gangs in Central America traveled to El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. More than 12,000 people were able to enjoy “The Dream,” - BTI Dance Company’s latest production - at low cost or for free. In 2009, we also donated proceeds from one performance to assist an HIV Foundation for children in El Salvador.

Our Outreach Program offered free workshops to more than 150 youth at risk including gang members in Central America in partnership with the cultural attaché of the US Embassy in El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua.
